Description
This building is a barn and stable, located about 15 yards north-east of Great Parton Farmhouse. It dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is timber-framed with lath infill and weatherboarding, resting on a rubble base, with some sections made of handmade brick. The roof is machine-tiled and features a parapet, kneelers, and tumbled brickwork detail at the west end. The building has ten bays aligned east to west, with wagon bays that have opposed cart entries and double doors located in the third and seventh bays from the east end. It is partly two levels high. The framing consists of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate. On the north front elevation, there are four square loft openings and a small double doorway. A 19th-century single-bay wing made of coursed rubble with brick dressings projects from bay six, and there is a 19th-century lean-to rubble outshut adjoining bay ten. Inside, the roof features intermediate tie-beam trusses with two pairs of raking struts and three tiers of trenched purlins.
