Description

The outbuildings to the rear of No. 70, The Haven, are associated with a former farmhouse and date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed of red brick and feature pantile and slate roofs.

The outbuildings are positioned to the north and west of the main house, enclosing what was once a yard, now serving as a garden for the former farmhouse.

The north range includes a former single-storey stable with an attached lofted barn on the left. The stable has three semi-circular arch-headed doorways, each with plank doors and lattice ventilator overlights. The barn features a wide semi-circular arched doorway on the right and an inserted window on the left beneath a shallow segmental arch. The rear elevation has a low offshoot from the stable and inserted double doors in the center and at the raised right-hand end, with the barn also having double doors with integral lights.

The west range consists of a single-storey section to the south, which has double doors for a cart bay on the right and five arch-headed door and window openings on the left. To the north, there is a taller three-bay open-fronted hovel or wagon shed, originally supported by two slender cast-iron columns, one of which has been removed. The south gable features dentilled gable verges that match those of the main house.

These outbuildings are listed for their group value with the house, as they are significant elements of its setting and contribute to a notable ensemble of late 18th-century buildings.
