Description

West Lea is a large, detached house located on the north side of Radcliffe Road in Cropwell Butler. It was built in the mid-18th century, with a later wing added to the rear. The house is constructed of brick and has a slate roof, distinguished by a modillion eaves cornice and stone-coped gables. Brick end and ridge stacks are present.

The main range comprises five bays, accompanied by a parallel rear range. The building is two storeys high with garrets. A later projecting brick porch was added to the second bay, featuring a re-set pilastered doorcase, a modillion eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The porch contains a part-glazed door with a large single panel to the lower half. To the left of the porch is a single-pane sash window, and to the right are three sash windows. All windows have incised stuccoed lintels and raised keystones. Five similar sash windows are located on the first floor, and garret windows are set into the end gables. A contemporary rainwater head is located on the right gable. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
