Description

The Colston Bassett War Memorial is made of limestone and features a wheel cross with decorative foliate carvings and a central rose motif carved in low relief on its front face. The wheel of the cross head has a carved crossed ribbon design on its front. Both the arms of the cross and the shaft are octagonal in shape. The shaft rises from a square plinth that sits on a single stepped base.

On the front of the plinth, there is an inscription that reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF COLSTON BASSETT/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919." Additionally, the rear face of the plinth features another inscription that states: "WE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT/ I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE/ I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH."
