Description

This is a house, later incorporating a post office, built in 1715 with an addition in 1728. Some alterations were made in the 20th century. The house is constructed of red brick with blue brick headers, and has a plain tile roof with two red brick gable stacks. The gables are brick-coped with kneelers. It has a double-range plan. A horizontal band runs along the front, and another above the ground-floor lintels. The front has two storeys and three bays. The right two bays now contain a 20th-century doorway with a 20th-century door, flanked by large, bowed glazing bar shop windows on rubble plinths. To the left is a single glazing bar sash window. Three matching sash windows are above, all set within segmental arches. Two S-shaped tie plates are visible. The left gable walls are decorated near the apex with blue brick diaper patterns. The right gable wall of the front section is inscribed in blue brick with "IB 1715," and the rear range is similarly inscribed with "IB 1728."
