Description
The range of barns and carriage archway at Bunny Hall dates from 1718 and the early 18th century. It was designed and built for Sir Thomas Parkyns. The structure is made of red brick with some blue brick chequering and features a plain tile roof. The left gable has brick coping with a kneeler, and there is a similar single gable now incorporated into the ridge. The right bay includes a carriage archway and four slit ventilators above.
To the left, the barn is set on a plinth and built on segmental arches. It has a large doorway with a concrete surround, flanked by single 20th-century fixed lights. Further left and right are single glazing bar fixed lights, with original openings under segmental arches that have segmental arched brick hood moulds above. There are remains of a similar hood mould over the doorway, which also features an inscription in blue brick reading "1718." Some slit ventilators are blocked.
The barn to the left has a large doorway with a plank double door, flanked by single pilaster buttresses. There is a smaller doorway with a plank door to the left, with the lintel flanked by single small openings. On the top floor to the right, there are two openings with plank shutters and a single glazing bar casement further right. Across the front, there are three rows of slit ventilators placed closely together, some of which are now blocked.
Inside the barn to the right, posts are mounted on corbels set into the wall, with single curved braces supporting the tie beam and wall plate. Sir Thomas Parkyns Bart. (circa 1662-1741) made significant improvements to and rebuilt much of Bunny according to his designs.
