Description
The Upper Broughton War Memorial is a limestone structure that was unveiled and blessed in 1920, located in the graveyard of the Church of St Luke. The memorial has a square plan and stands on a two-stepped base. It features a tapering plinth and shaft, topped with a wheeled Celtic cross that rests on a moulded and projecting base. The names of those who fell in the First World War are inscribed on the lower section of the plinth above the base, while the upper step bears the inscription "IN MEMORY OF OUR GLORIOUS DEAD FRANCE BELGIUM. 1914-1918." The name of the soldier from the village who was killed in the Second World War is inscribed on the lower step.
