Description

Numbers 1 and 2 Kirklands Yard, along with the adjoining barn and stables, are a pair of cottages and a barn built in the mid-18th century and altered in 1875. They are constructed of brick and topped with pantile roofs. The buildings feature a partial plinth, rebated eaves, and coped gables with kneelers. The barn has dentillated eaves and pedimented gables, with two ridge stacks and a single side wall stack.

The south front of the cottages is two storeys high and consists of seven bays across three sections. On the left, there is a small casement window and a blocked opening. To the right, a casement window is flanked by single doors. Further right, there is a door flanked by single casements, followed by a Yorkshire sash window and a 20th-century casement. To the far right, there is a lean-to addition. Above, the arrangement includes a Yorkshire sash window flanked on the left by three casements and on the right by two 20th-century casements. The west gable features a single casement window on each floor, with the lower one having a segmental head.

The barn's west side has a planked opening with a segmental head and an adjoining plank door, flanked by single part-glazed hatches with timber lintels. To the right, there are two glazing bar casements. The north gable includes a close-boarded door on the left and a hatch with a similar door and segmental head above it. A datestone inscribed "JWE 1875" is also present. The adjoining stables are single storey, consist of two bays, and are built of brick with a slate roof, but they are not considered of special interest.
