Description

The viaduct, located 650 metres south of Muskham Bridge, was designed by Smeaton in 1770 and widened in 1992. It is constructed of red brick and features 13 round arches with buttresses between them. The structure includes brick parapets that are topped with ashlar coping, which has scrolled and ramped ends along with round brick piers. This viaduct is part of Smeaton's Causeway, which was built to improve the Great North Road. A section of the viaduct also extends into the Parish of Newark.
