Description
The Pigeoncote and attached gateways, barn, and wall at Epperstone Manor date from the early 18th century, late 18th century, and late 19th century. The pigeoncote is built of red brick with an ashlar finish and features a pyramidal plain tile roof. It has a first-floor band and a rear doorway with a chamfered flush ashlar quoin surround and a plank door. Above the doorway is a single panel with a raised brick surround and two rows of openings for birds.
To the left of the pigeoncote is a late 19th-century restored coped ashlar wall that extends for one metre and includes an ashlar pier with pyramidal-shaped coping. There is a central double iron gate, with a similar single pier to the left. The wall further left is set on a plinth and extends for two metres, interrupted by a chamfered arched doorway with a plank door, and is higher over the doorway.
To the right of the pigeoncote is a late 19th-century ashlar gateway featuring a decorative iron gate in a chamfered arched surround, with moulded spandrels and a Tudor-style hood mould. Single stepped buttresses are located on either side, and the wall above the gateway is stepped with shaped coping, culminating in a gable. In the apex of the gable is a segmental pointed arched panel decorated with a coat of arms.
Attached to the right is a late 18th-century red brick barn with a pantile roof, set on a rubble plinth and featuring dentil eaves. It has a doorway with a plank door and a single opening above to the right, along with four cross tie plates. Additionally, there is a red brick wall with rock face ashlar coping extending for 22 metres attached to the right.
