Description
The tomb chest of Robert Sherbrooke, who died in 1710, is located adjacent to the east side of the workshops in the former wood yard of Oxton Hall. The tomb chest, made of ashlar and cast iron, features a shaped top and has large vase mouldings at each corner. Surrounding the tomb are 18th-century spiked iron railings set on an ashlar plinth. At each corner and in the center of the two longest sides, there are single railings topped with small urns that have small orb finials. The Sherbrooke family had their seat at Oxton Hall, and the tomb was likely erected by a descendant. It is situated in what was probably a Quaker burial ground.
