Description
The former tollhouse, now serving as the Women's Institute County House, is located at the southeast end of Trent Bridge and is accompanied by adjoining railings. It was built around 1800, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from brick with stone dressings and features 20th-century pantile and slate roofs, including three gable stacks, two of which are external. It has a brick plinth and coped gables, with the rear range displaying crow-stepped gables. The structure has a double range plan and stands two storeys plus garrets high.
The front façade has three windows, with a central 12-pane sash flanked by two single 16-pane sashes, all of which have segmental heads. There is a central stone doorcase topped with a hood supported by scroll brackets, leading to a 19th-century moulded four-panel door with a stained glass overlight. On either side of the doorcase are segment-headed 16-pane sashes. Each gable features a garret casement.
To the left, there is a single-storey mid-19th-century addition that includes a moulded six-panel door with a label mould, and to its right, a segment-headed 12-pane sash. The left side of the building has three similar flat-headed sashes. Surrounding the property is mid-19th-century cast iron railing with two gateways, set on a rock-faced ashlar plinth with chamfered coping.
