Description
The Old Sheepwash and Footbridge is a footbridge and sheepwash dating from the late 17th century, constructed of dressed coursed rubble. The footbridge features a single arch with a parapet on each side. The western arch has a groove for a shutter. Below the bridge, there is a paved rill, with a wall extending from the left that drops down and curves around. The wall on the right is lower and interrupted by a small flight of stone steps that run at a sharp angle to the wall. In the angle between the steps and the wall, there is a stone trough. Beyond the steps, the wall continues in a semi-circular curve, followed by a small straight section with grooves for a shutter, and then a section where the wall curves similarly to the left side. Water drops steeply just before the steps, and next to the steps, in the center of the rill, is a large oval stone container.
