Description
The Wagon and Horses Public House is a public house dated 1752, with later 19th-century additions and alterations. It features a roughcast render over red brick above the sill level and cement render below. The roof is slate with pantiles at the rear, and there are single 20th-century red brick stacks on the ridge and left gable. The eaves are decorated with dogtooth detailing. The building has two storeys plus a garret and consists of two bays. There is a first-floor band, and on the ground floor, there are two 19th-century canted bays, each with a single glazing bar sash, flanked by smaller similar sashes. Above these are two additional glazing bar sashes. A central ashlar plaque inscribed "W.I.I. 1752" is located to the right. Projecting from the main structure is a 19th-century red brick and slate two-storey, single bay wing with dentil eaves and a cement rendered plinth. The doorway features a 20th-century door with glazing bar marginal lights, and above it is a single glazing bar sash. The rear of the building includes various two and single-storey wings and extensions.
