Description
The White House is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with 19th and 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed blue lias rubble and brick, with significant remains of timber framing visible internally and at the rear. Some sections are mud and stud with rendered decoration. The roof is a hipped design covered in 20th-century pantiles, with a single external stack on the north gable and a single ridge stack. The house has two storeys and originally comprised three bays, now arranged in an L-shape. A 20th-century panelled door is positioned off-centre, flanked by single 20th-century casements with two panes of glazing bar; a close-boarded door is located to the south. Above, there is a single 20th-century casement with two panes of glazing bar. The rear elevation features a 20th-century gabled rubble porch and largely 20th-century windows. A 19th-century extension to the east, built of coursed blue lias rubble and brick, has a brick first-floor band, dentillated eaves, and 20th-century windows. Adjacent to the east is a 19th-century stable, one storey in height and one bay wide, featuring two stable doors with timber lintels. The north elevation displays two small 20th-century casements with glazing bar windows, and three 19th-century fixed lights above. Inside, on the first floor, there are three bays of timber framing. A later staircase cuts through a span beam, and an oak bressummer above the fireplace is inscribed with the date 1757.
