Description
Clyde House is an early 18th-century house with additions and alterations made in 1789 and the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick, partly rendered, with stone dressings and plain tile roofs, and has two gable stacks. The front facing the street is irregularly rendered and features a plinth and cogged eaves. It contains three glazing bar sash windows, a smaller sash between them, and a 20th-century door within a moulded stone doorcase with cornice and fanlight. A 20th-century sash, casement, and door are also present. A glazing bar sash sits on each floor of the return angle to the left, the upper one being smaller. The garden front, dating from the late 18th century, is three storeys high and has modillioned eaves. It features three tall glazing bar sashes, with three smaller sashes above. A central moulded stone doorcase frames a part-glazed fielded panelled door, with a cornice and fanlight, flanked by single tripartite 20th-century casements. A two-storey addition, incorporating elements from the 18th and mid-19th centuries, is located to the right. The rear elevation displays an irregular fenestration pattern, largely consisting of 19th-century casements. Inside, a late 18th-century dogleg staircase features a cut string, stick balusters, a ramped and scrolled handrail, and a plain rear staircase of similar date. Principal rooms have moulded cornices, and two late 18th-century hob grates are present, along with five fielded panelled doors. The addition to the south has a single butt purlin roof constructed from reused timber.
