Description

Caunton Grange is a house, enlarged and given a new facade around 1785, incorporating fabric from an earlier building. The structure is built of brick and dressed stone, with a hipped roof covered in plain tiles applied in the 20th century. The eaves are chamfered, and there are single roof and sidewall stacks. The house is three storeys high and originally three bays wide, with a now L-shaped layout. The front windows are glazing bar sashes, each with a splayed keystoned lintel. The main east front features a central portico of ashlar, with four Doric columns and a pediment. A 19th-century door, featuring traceried panels and an overlight, is situated within the portico, flanked by single windows. Above the portico are three windows of similar design, and above those, three smaller glazing bar sashes. The south side has a 20th-century casement window to the left and a glazing bar sash with a rubbed brick segmental head. Above these are two similar windows, and above those again, two smaller glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick segmental heads. A flat-roofed rear addition and the rear elevation have 20th-century windows. Internally, there is a single 19th-century stucco fireplace with Ionic piers and a Greek Key frieze. Several 19th-century doors retain their original fittings.
