Description
This is a terrace of houses, now used as a café and flats, built in 1766 for Dr. Bernard Wilson, the vicar of Newark. The building was restored and converted around 1980. It is constructed of brick and features gabled and hipped pantile roofs with nine ridge stacks. The design includes a plinth, bands at the first and second floors, and modillion eaves. The higher end pavilions and a single bay center project from the main structure.
The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes with flat arches, with smaller windows on the second floor. The cellars have segment-headed lights, some of which are blocked. The doors are 20th century and have six fielded panels. The terrace is three storeys tall and has a total of 20 windows arranged in a pattern of 4:13:3. The left pavilion has two blank spaces, while the central bay features a round-headed doorway with a blocked fanlight, flanked by five doors and six windows.
On the left return, facing Kirkgate, there are three plain sashes on the first floor, and below them, a single plain sash and a late 20th century shopfront set in a tiled surround. The right pavilion has a central doorway with an overlight, and the right return has three windows on each floor, with a lean-to single storey addition to the right that includes a four-panel door.
