Description

The Khyber Pass Restaurant, M & J Marsh, Southwell Fish and Chips, and Sweeney’s Barbers form a group of four houses, now with four shops, dating from the early 19th century. The building has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and more recently in the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick, with a slate roof. Number 46 has been colourwashed. The building has dentilled eaves and two ridge stacks. Most of the windows are glazing bar sashes. It is three storeys high and has a five-window range. The front elevation features five sashes with segmental heads, the left-hand sash lacking glazing bars. Above are five smaller sashes. A central elliptical arched carriage opening exists. To either side are two late 19th-century shopfronts, altered in the late 20th century, each with a single door and window. The shopfronts to the left have a continuous corniced fascia.
