Description
Beacon Hill Tollhouse is a former toll house, now disused, built around 1820 for the Newark Turnpike Trust. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof, highlighted by a large central ridge stack set diagonally. It has a rendered plinth, kneelers, and deep eaves supported by shaped brackets. The building is single storey and has a cross plan with three window openings, all of which are currently boarded up. The central section projects forward and includes a segment-headed window, with a door located on the right side. The right wing contains a single window, while the left side features a projecting gable with two round-headed windows, and a blocked door to the left.
