Description
The boundary wall and gatepiers to The Friary were built in the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The wall is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and runs approximately 115 meters long and 2 meters high along Appleton Gate. It features an off-centre pair of square gatepiers, which have quoins and caps topped with domed finials. The stone coping is located to the right of the gateway, while the left side has brick coping. There is a northeast range that runs at right angles, measuring about 30 meters long, which has gabled rubble coping. The east range is approximately 40 meters long and has brick coping, with a ramped stone coping at the south end that was restored in the late 20th century. There is also an off-centre close boarded door. The wall may follow the line of an earlier boundary wall.
