Description
Nos. 67, 69, 71, and 73 on Main Street in Papplewick are a group of four cottages built in the late 18th century. They were extended in the mid-19th century and again in the mid-20th century. The cottages are constructed from dressed stone and topped with pantile roofs, featuring four ridge stacks and a single gable stack. The building is two storeys high and consists of eight bays in a single range, with a mid-20th century rear wing added to the east.
The windows are primarily Yorkshire sashes, and the openings are framed with heavy ashlar surrounds. Each cottage has a central door on the south side, flanked by single sash windows. Above each door, there are two additional sash windows. No. 73, located at the eastern end, includes a mid-19th century extension. The east gable features a casement window, with two sashes above it. The rear wing, built around 1966, is weatherboarded and has a stone plinth, while the rear elevation mainly exhibits regular 20th-century window designs.
