Description

Top Farmhouse and adjoining stables is a farmhouse built around 1782, with additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble, topped with a slate roof and features ashlar dressings. It has first floor and eaves bands, dentillated eaves, and coped gables. The building is two storeys plus attics and consists of five bays.

The south front showcases a central projecting gable with a pediment, flanked by two-storey half-pedimented wings. A central Doric portico is accompanied by single mullioned casements. Each wing contains a round-headed casement, with the left one being partly blocked. Above these, there are three casements, the central one being the smallest, and above that, a Diocletian window in a pediment.

On the rear elevation, to the left, there is a late 19th-century lean-to stable block with five bays, constructed of brick and also featuring a slate roof. This section includes four casements on the left and a 20th-century door on the right. To the right of this, there is a garage door, followed by a single-storey stable with a door flanked by single casements. Above this stable, there are five casements, and above again, a single casement in a pediment. This building was likely the Home Farm for Papplewick Hall.
