Description
The bakery, now a house, located to the north of Bestwood Lodge Hotel, was built in 1862 by S. S. Teulon for the 10th Duke of St. Albans. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof and features ornate brick dressings, including a dentillated string course and eaves. The building has two storeys and three bays, arranged in an irregular L-plan, with three transverse ridge stacks set diagonally.
The south gable includes a pointed door on the left and a triple casement window in a pointed recess to the right, followed by a lower wing. Above this area, there are two pigeonholes. The east side has a gabled wing on the left with two casements, and to the right, there are three casements, with four additional casements of various sizes above. The west side features a buttress on the left and a lean-to wing on the right, with an off-centre door flanked by three casements on the left and a single casement on the right. Above this door, there are five casements of various sizes. The north gable has a four-light casement on each floor, with the upper one featuring a stepped head. This building is a detached part of the outbuildings of Bestwood Lodge.
