Description

The Daybrook Almshouses, built in 1899 and possibly designed by J. L. Pearson Jnr, consist of 12 almshouses commissioned by Sir John Robinson. They are constructed from rockfaced and plain ashlar stone, featuring gabled and pyramid roofs covered with plain tiles, and are designed in the 17th century Renaissance Revival style. The buildings have a chamfered plinth and shouldered shaped coped gables, with 12 side wall stacks.

The almshouses are arranged in a single range over two storeys and comprise seven bays. The windows are primarily cross and mullioned casements. The gabled west front includes larger projecting terminal gabled wings, each with two blank panels. A three-storey central gatehouse, topped with a wind vane, features a round-headed carriage opening. This gatehouse is flanked by three gabled porches, each containing a door on either side and two casements. Each porch is accompanied by a single cross casement. Above the gatehouse, there are three casements, with the central one being the largest, flanked by six additional casements. The gatehouse also displays a central datestone inscribed with the year '1899' and features three round-headed casements above, with the central one again being the largest.
