Description
No. 265 High Road is a farmhouse built around 1711, with alterations made around 1910. It was constructed for Sir T W Hunloke Bt. The building is made of brick and has plain tile roofs, featuring brick coped gables and kneelers, along with two ridge stacks and a single gable stack. The farmhouse is designed in an L-shape, with two storeys plus attics. It has a brick plinth and dentilated eaves.
The street-facing side has a central two-light casement window flanked by single three-light casements, with a similar arrangement of windows above, all featuring segment heads. Above these is a hipped dormer with a three-light casement. The garden front, which faces southeast, includes a projecting gabled wing to the left. There is a central doorway with an original six-panel door and overlight, and to the right, a three-light plain sash window is positioned above a two-light casement, with another two-light casement to the right, all having segment heads. Above this section is a hipped dormer with a two-light casement. The projecting side wall has a blocked window on the ground floor and a three-light glazing bar casement above. The gable wing features a large shallow bow window spanning two floors, with a small two-light casement above.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts a very fine early 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, a large inglenook fireplace, stop-chamfered beams, original doors, and a corn bin located in the attic.
