Description

The Old Vicarage is a house, originally built as a vicarage in the early 19th century and altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick and has a stucco finish, topped with a hipped slate roof. The building features stone sills, deep moulded eaves, and two roof stacks, with a square plan and a projecting wing to the west. It stands two storeys high and has four bays.

The north front includes an engaged two-bay portico supported by two Tuscan columns, with a moulded cornice on central scrolled brackets. Above this, there is a moulded segmental pediment with an arched central portion, and a central blank panel flanked by single glazing bar French windows. On either side, there are single glazing bar casements with segmental heads and moulded arched pediments on scrolled brackets. Above, there are two similar flanking windows and a central pair of casements with moulded hoods on curved brackets. To the right, there is a semi-circular bow window with three glazing bar sashes, and above it, a large Yorkshire sash with a moulded architrave and hood.

The street front features two glazing bar French windows flanked by engaged Tuscan colonettes that support moulded hoods. Above, there are two casements with Tuscan colonettes on panelled square bases, also carrying segmental moulded hoods. The west front has a central Doric portico that contains a cove moulded timber doorcase with colonettes, a geometrical overlight, and a 19th-century half-glazed door.
