Description
The lych gate to the north of the Church of St. Winifred was built between 1913 and 1916 and designed by Mr. McIntyre and Louis Ambler. It is constructed from ashlar stone and iron, topped with a slate roof. The gate features stone coped gables and kneelers. The main archway is set within a recessed panel and flanked by two engaged columns with cushion capitals, which support cable moulded imposts. This structure includes an inner moulded arch with a chevron design, an arch of bobbin, and an outer arch decorated with nailhead motifs. A double decorative iron gate is present at the front. The rear side corresponds to the front but lacks the bobbin moulding and gate. Both the east and west walls have two small arched openings. The lych gate is included in the listing for its group value.
