Description
The White House Cafe is a building that originally served as a farmhouse and later as a lorry drivers' hostel. It dates from the early 17th century and early 18th century. The structure features part timber framing with a herringbone king post in the left gable, which has been refaced in the 18th century. The exterior is finished with white-washed coursed rubble and brick, accented by projecting chamfered ashlar quoins. The roof is made of pantiles, with a stone-coped right gable and both a single brick ridge stack and a single right gable brick stack.
The building has a moulded wooden cornice and stands two storeys tall with four bays. It is set on a plinth and has a first-floor band. The entrance features a part-glazed door framed by a bolection-moulded ashlar surround, complete with a frieze and cornice. To the right of the doorway is a single glazing bar sash window, with two similar windows to the left and three more on the first floor. At the rear, there is an outshut made of white-washed coursed rubble and brick.
