Description
Number 8, Archway House, Archway Cottage, and Number 10 are a row of four cottages dating from the late 18th century, which were refronted in the early 19th century, likely for William Mellish. The cottages are constructed of red brick and ashlar, topped with a pantile roof that features two rendered ridge stacks. They stand two storeys high and consist of nine bays. The central three bays slightly project and are adorned with a pediment that has an ashlar cornice.
There is a tall carriage arch in the center, flanked by three casement windows on each side, all featuring arched Gothick cast iron glazing bars. At each end of the row are single doorways, both equipped with similar Gothick traceried overlights and wooden doors. Number 10 has panelled detailing. Above the doorways are six more casement windows that match the style of those below. In the pediment, there is a 20th-century glazing bar casement. The windows of Archway House have recently been replaced with wooden casements that follow the same glazing pattern.
