Description

The Pigeoncote behind Greystones is a mid-18th century structure that was converted into a residential annex in 2016. It is constructed of red brick and ashlar on a coursed rubble plinth, topped with a pantile roof. The gables are ashlar-coped and feature crow-stepped designs with kneelers, and the ridge is adorned with single ashlar ball finials at each end. The building has dentillated eaves and stands three storeys tall with a garret.

On the southwest gable end, there is a single wooden door at ground level, with metalwork added in 2016. A flight of brick and ashlar-coped steps, equipped with a 20th-century iron handrail, leads to a central doorway on the first floor. This doorway features a wooden door under a segmental head and modern double-leaf glazed doors installed in 2016. The attic includes a semi-circular opening for pigeons, which is glazed with glazing bars, and below this is an ashlar ledge. Timber casements have been added to the window openings on the northwest and southeast elevations in 2016.

Inside, the ground floor retains timber ceiling beams, a timber stable divider, a trough, timber feed racks, a timber plank wall, and a stone and brick floor that was re-laid in 2016. The first floor also features timber ceiling beams with timber post supports, along with modern partitions and doors. The second floor contains two king post trusses and brick bird boxes on the southwest wall. Additionally, a single-storey extension was added to the northeast elevation in 2016.
