Description
The Everton and Scaftworth War Memorial, designed by Tyas and Guest, was unveiled in 1922. It features a blue granite cross on a square-sectioned plinth, which is set on a concrete base. The cross-head is highlighted by a raised Celtic cross design, and the base of the shaft flares out and includes a carved wreath. The blue granite plinth displays the names of those who fell in the First World War on the east face and those who died in the Second World War on the west face. The west face also features the inscription: "LEST WE FORGET/ TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN EVER GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF EVERTON & SCAFTWORTH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF EVERTON & SCAFTWORTH." The plinth is supported by a three-stepped Portland stone base, which has the name of Tyas and Guest carved into it, although the corner posts on the lowest step are missing.
