Description

Otter's Bridge 68 is an accommodation bridge over the Chesterfield Canal, built around 1774 to 1776 when this section of the canal was constructed. The engineers responsible for its design were James Brindley and Hugh Henshall. The bridge is made of brick and features squared stone coping. It has a single segmental-headed arch with a towpath, and includes a projecting arch ring or drip mould. The springing stones of the arch are visible, and the voussoirs have been rendered. The bridge has swept wings that terminate in piers, and some brickwork has been renewed.
