Description

This is an early 19th-century toll cottage located on High Road, South Carlton. The building is constructed of dressed coursed rubble with a pantile roof and a single red brick stack at the rear centre. It has a hexagonal plan and sits on a plinth. The central doorway features a half-glazed door with a traceried fanlight, surrounded by a flush ashlar frame with a slightly projecting keystone. Flanking the door are single windows with glazing bars, each with a flush splayed lintel and projecting keystone. Above these windows is a single casement window with glazing bars, also with a flush splayed lintel and projecting keystone. All windows have flush splayed lintels with slightly projecting keystones.
