Description
The memorial drinking fountain in Titchfield Park was built in 1898 to honor Zachariah Green and three other family members. It is made of red and grey granite and features a sandstone ashlar plinth. The fountain has a battered square pedestal with a coved base, and fluted moulded drinking bowls on the north and south sides. Above these bowls is a square base with corner shafts. Each side of the fountain has a round-headed niche with flanking shafts, each containing an inscribed tablet. The west side features a bronze portrait medallion. The frieze is inscribed with "Erected 1898." At the top, there is a cross pedimented capital with etched patterns, supporting a domed base that carries a circular cupola with shafts, topped with a dome and iron finial. This memorial originally stood in the Market Square and was likely moved when Titchfield Park was opened in 1922.
