Description

The Police Station, built in the mid-19th century, is constructed of white brick with red brick bands and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. It has a red brick eaves cornice supported by brackets. The Cross Street elevation showcases six round-headed windows with red brick strings at the cills, red brick heads, and a band at impost height. To the left, there is a small window with two paired lights and a column mullion. A moulded cornice separates the storeys. The ground floor consists of eight arcaded bays that include four windows (one of which was formerly a door), one door, and a small window with two lights. The larger windows have round-arched heads and a moulded band at the cills, along with recessed apron panels. The bays on the ground floor are adorned with carved stone capitals. The Spring Gardens elevation features three first-floor windows with strings at the cills, while the ground floor has four bays, including two windows. To the right, there is a rectangular porch with a trefoil-headed entry and a pierced parapet. A later two-storey wing is attached to the right, featuring a full-height rectangular bay. The Police Station, along with Nos 25 to 29 (odd) and Nos 33 to 37 (odd), forms a group, with Nos 25 to 29 (odd) and No 33 being of local interest.
