Description
The County Court Buildings, dated 1759 and designed by E. Hawksmore, are located on the south side of Market Street. This three-storey structure is built from red brick with lighter brick headers. It features five windows with plain reveals and keystones, as well as hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor has four windows, and there are brick bands between the storeys. A stone plinth supports the building, which is topped with a carved modillioned cornice and a stone-coped parapet. The central doorway, dated 1870, is framed by rusticated stone pilasters and a pedimented surround, with a similar door on the side elevation. The Friends' Meeting House and the County Court Buildings form a group.
