Description

Nettleton House is a house dating from 1827. It is incorrectly labelled "the Elms" on Ordnance Survey maps. The building is constructed of yellow brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring two brick stacks and an overhanging eaves cornice. The main front is three bays wide and two stories high, with a deep ashlar plinth and a first-floor band. The central double doors, which are half-glazed, are accessed by four steps and have bordered glazing bars and a four-pane overlight. The door surround is moulded, set within panelled reveals, and features flanking columns supporting a full entablature. Tall glazing bar sashes flank the entrance. The first floor has three glazing bar sashes. All windows are topped with flat brick arches and have very thin glazing bars.

The interior is notable for its fine moulded cornices; the dining room's cornices are decorated with roses, while those in the drawing room feature flower and fruit motifs. Both principal rooms contain original marble fireplaces. The hall has moulded architraves, featuring decorated angle squares composed of four acorns and oak leaves. The staircase has slender, moulded balusters and moulded strings. Above the stairs is a domed glazed lantern with a concave moulding decorated with acanthus leaves. Two elliptical arches are located between the upper landing and the first-floor rooms, and the stair and hall walls are lined with large, moulded plaster panels.
