Description

Mansgate House and Cottage, now two separate dwellings, dates primarily from the 17th century, with a later 18th-century addition and alteration, and minor 20th-century modifications. The building is constructed of colourwashed stone and brick, with a pantile roof and single brick gable and ridge stacks. It presents a two-storey, five-bay front, featuring a brick band at the first floor level and a dentillated eaves course. The original 17th-century cottage is discernible in the stonework at the left-hand end, while the remainder of the ground floor and all of the first floor are brick. The building’s height has been increased at a later date, as evidenced by the remains of an earlier roof pitch visible in the right-hand gable. The front façade has a centrally positioned 20th-century door, flanked by large, single-pane glazing bar sash windows. To the left of the door is a Yorkshire sash window. Above the door is a blank opening, with a single-pane glazing bar sash window to the right and three further glazing bar sashes to the left. All windows have segmental heads.
