Description
Hopkin's Hospital is a Grade II listed building founded in 1770, located on the south side of St Peter's Street. This 2-storey Gothic structure features six windows, a crenellated parapet, and stone pinnacles. The windows are 2-light lancet style, and there is a plain door set in an archway. The building includes an extension from 1868 located in Austin Friars' Lane, which also has a side elevation of 2 storeys. This extension features a crenellated parapet with three finials, a cornice, and six windows, of which two are blocked. The paired arched lights on the upper level have a drip mould with gargoyles, while the ground floor has three similar windows and two 4-centred doorways. The 1868 extension has six paired windows and one single light, with a central gable. Some Barnack Rag stone has been reused from a monastic building. Hopkin's Hospital forms a group with the nearby archway on the site of St Peter's Gate, and they are of similar date.
