Description
Seven headstones located 20 metres south of the tower at the Church of St Mary and St Peter date from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are made of slate. On the left, there is a shouldered arch topped stone dedicated to James Clayton, dated 1803. Next to it is a similar stone for William Clayton, dated 1791, followed by a larger stone for Mary Clayton, dated 1793. To the right, there is a small flat topped stone for Samuel Woolley, dated 1770, and a similar stone commemorating three children of the Clayton family, dated 1777, 1781, and 1783. Next is another shouldered arch topped stone for William Clayton, dated 1805, and finally, a scroll topped stone for Richard Lewty, dated 1802.
