Description
The war memorial in Langtoft is situated in the churchyard of St Michael and All Saints Church. It is made of stone and positioned to the left of the path leading from the gate to the church's south door, among gravestones at the top of a bank that slopes away from the path. The memorial features a cross with a rectangular section, on the east face of which is a sheaf of branches that extends along the arms of the cross, tied with a bow below. Above the sheaf is a medal shaped like a cross. The cross shaft is supported by a three-tiered stepped plinth, which rests on a square concrete base surrounded by a chain-link fence with metal stanchions. The chain fencing also lines the concrete steps that lead down from the memorial to the churchyard path.
The plinth is inscribed with the forenames and surnames of those who died, along with the inscription: "TO THE MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ AND WORLD WAR 1939-1945/ GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN/ THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS/ LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS JOHN XV 18."
