Description
Castlegate House, located at 49 Castlegate, is a middle 18th century building. It is two stories high with attics and constructed from ashlar stone, topped with a slate roof. The façade features five windows with glazing bars and lintels that have keystones. The doorcase is adorned with panelled pilasters. Although the original dentilled cornice and shaped flat hood on brackets have been destroyed, there are plans to copy and replace them. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with a plain fanlight above it, and there are three gabled dormers. Inside, the house contains several panelled rooms from the same period. A photograph of the building is available in the National Monuments Record.
