Description
The town wall, dating from around 1300 and raised in the 18th century, is located to the north of North Walk House. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. The wall measures 18 metres long and stands 2 metres high, featuring five buttresses and three gargoyles. The section raised in ashlar in the 18th century has a coped top. To the left, there is an additional 3 metres of rubble walling with quoins and a gateway that includes a plank door. This section is topped with stone slate coping. The original section on the right has a deep earth bank at the rear, accessible by a flight of 15 stone steps that lead to a single square pier topped with a ball finial.
