Description

The orangery, located at the north end of the Italian garden, 200 meters north of Belton House, was built in 1821 and designed around 1811 by Jeffry Wyatville. This single-storey structure is constructed of ashlar and features a glazed hipped roof in the Classical Revival style. It has a plinth and cornice, along with a balustrade made of Coade stone, which includes panelled corner pedestals. The orangery consists of nine fully glazed bays, with the end bays being narrower and separated by pilasters. Steps lead up to the front and returns of the building. At the rear, there is a square projection topped with three short round ashlar flues. On either side, there are lower flat-roofed projections that contain a window and a door. The interior features a cast-iron structure. This orangery is one of several estate buildings designed by Wyatville for the first Earl Brownlow of Belton House, constructed between 1810 and 1820. The building is situated within Belton Park, which is listed on the Garden Register at grade I.
