Description

Cavalry House is an early 18th century red brick house located at 36 South Street. It features stone quoins and stands two storeys tall with a stone slate roof and two dormers. The building has a brick eaves cornice and three windows with flat brick arches; two of these are three-light windows, flanking a single-light window, all with later glazing bars. The central entrance has a modern "Tudor" door with a glazed fanlight, set within a mid-19th century stone rusticated architrave that has a four-centred arch. Cavalry House is part of a group that includes Nos 31 to 35 (odd), Nos 32, 34, 34A, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, and the Old Grammar School.
