Description
There are two chest tombs located 8 metres south of the chancel at the Church of St Mary and St Peter. These tombs date from the early to mid-19th century and are made of ashlar stone. The northern tomb is a large, sarcophagus-shaped square chest that features a plinth, rebated corners, and a deep cornice on its shallow gabled top. It has square slate tablets, mostly detached, commemorating William Taylor, who died in 1852, and members of his family. The southern tomb is smaller, also with a plinth and a shallow gabled top, but it has reeded corners and octagonal slate tablets. This tomb is inscribed for Robert Taylor, who died in 1810, and Ann Taylor, who died in 1825. These tombs are included for their group value.
