Description
Lloyds Bank, built in 1880 by W Talbot Brown, is a three-storey building located on the south side of High Street, numbered 65. The structure is made of ashlar, with the ground floor painted. It features a moulded parapet supported on brackets at the corners. The middle section has two hoods on brackets above round-arched windows. The end sections project slightly and have channeled rustication.
The top floor contains four round-arched windows, which are sashes without glazing bars, each adorned with an iron balcony on brackets. A band runs along the cills of the centre section. On the first floor, the two outer windows are topped with broken pediments featuring swags, while the two inner windows have segmental pediments and iron balconies. There are two doorways at the ends, each with broken pediments on grooved brackets. The doorways have double doors made of eight carved panels, framed by pilasters with carved ornamentation. Above, there are two round-arched windows with keystones decorated with anthemion motifs, separated by a pilaster with a non-classical capital. The building also features carved squinches.
Lloyds Bank is part of a group that includes Nos 53 to 59, Nos 61 to 65, and Nos 68 to 73 on the same street.
