Description
No. 8 High Street is a mid-18th century building featuring three storeys and attics, constructed from red brick. It has a mansard roof made of stone slates, with stone-capped gable ends and two gabled dormers. The building includes double-hung sash windows with glazing bays. A heavily moulded eaves cornice supported by modillions adds to its architectural detail. The modern shopfront contrasts with the three windows above, which are set in plain reveals and feature hung sashes with restored glazing bars. The second-floor windows are full-length and each has a simple wrought iron balcony. The top storey showcases a central semi-circular window framed in moulded brick, with fluted brick keystones and moulded cills on all three windows. Inside, there is a good staircase in the upper storeys. At the rear, there is a three-storey stone house from the mid-18th century, topped with a high old slate roof and featuring two dormers and three windows. This building is part of a group that includes No. 4 and Nos. 6 to 12.
