Description
Five headstones located 5 metres south of the tower at the Church of St Mary and St Peter date from the early, mid, and late 18th century, as well as the early 19th century. They are made of slate. On the left is a flat-headed stone featuring two inscribed panels, created by Stephen Staveley of Melton, commemorating Mary Ann Rawson (1711), Mary Day (1738), Thomas Day (1725), and Alice Day (1747). To the right is a larger flat-headed stone with a round arched panel dedicated to John Simpson (1765) and his family. Next is a similar stone with two inscribed panels and scrolls for George Felstead (1775) and Ann Remington (1776). Following that is a shouldered arch-topped stone adorned with a skull and bones, marking the grave of Joseph Rimmington (1809). Finally, there is a smaller arch-topped stone for Mary Pullen (1791).
